American Rhetoric: Online Speech Bank

American Rhetoric: Online Speech Bank is a site pointed out recently by Andrew Sullivan.

The Online Speech Bank describes itself as:

"an index to and growing database of 5000 full text, audio and video (streaming) versions of public speeches, sermons, legal proceedings, lectures, debates, interviews, other recorded media events, and a declaration or two."

The Unedited Voice of a Person

The Unedited Voice of a Person

Via Adam Curry's Weblog in a posting entitled "scripting news switcheroo", Dave Winer at Scripting News is quoted as saying:

'Like it or not, it's time to start flipping switches in the transition of Scripting News from weblog to directory for the World Wide Web. Some changes will be visible to the public, others will only be visible to me. By this time tomorrow the cactus will be gone. Everything will change, except one thing will remain constant. It's all still the unedited voice of a person. But it will be modular, and it will be possible for my voice to be mixed with others, in new ways.'
Blow me away big man!"

The italicized text is Curry's addition.

the cluetrain manifesto

the cluetrain manifesto: "Whether delivering information, opinions, perspectives, dissenting arguments or humorous asides, the human voice is typically open, natural, uncontrived.

People recognize each other as such from the sound of this voice. "

LawMeme - Professor's blog sparks campus speech controversy

Ah, the poor professors... often so UNTHOUGHTFUL about public opinion.
No freedom of speech for THEM. Blog... but in peace.

The First Amendment is surely meant only for those who wish to shout obscenities?
Or burn their country's flag? Or fill the internet with spam? or worse?

And there are those (few) who THINK the academics are paid TO THINK.

If not, then what else?... to PONDER in silence? To merely agree with the mindless masses?

If the world consists largely of those who merely RECEIVE orders, as it does,
then who GIVES the orders?
and on what basis?
WHO has THOUGHT about THAT?

And who are the wise men, then, behind the thrones of power?

THINK THEY NOT before they VOICE their views?

Surely the rest of the world is not doing much of that - namely, THINKING.
Otherwise, maybe our Planet Earth would be in better shape than it is.

REAL THOUGHTS when VOICED
do not necessarily follow
the dictates of THOUGHTLESS public opinion.

And this is always a nuisance.

Just being THOUGHTFUL.
